I am currently running 10.04 64bit on Sandy Bridge i3. I had the same issues as stated above, but when i upgraded lucid itself to the "newest" lucid and updated the kernel to 2.6.38 all the drivers(Xorg) work great and even the built in webcam functions perfectly. I must say the system runs better than Win7 on the other partition. I do have 4 GB of RAM so either way the system functions arent denting the available memory. I hope that helps! In the terminal run a dist-uprgrade and then upgrade to the stated kernel and all should be well! Cheers

Anthony, I'm here in Rhinelander - posting this from an Ubuntu netbook - I've used Ubuntu primarily, but other flavors of Linux for a number of years on all my computers and I know some others who do as well, as well as many other open source packages - I suppose I should sign up for that mailing list ;)
