Many things have been happening lately on a lot of different facets. Brittany is recovering from what we suspect to be the dreaded H1N1 (fever, cold-like symptoms, body-aches, and lethargy). I made sure she kept properly hydrated and kept her Kleenex® box full. She was a tough trooper, and we stuck faithfully by her side (and by we, I mean myself and her SpongeBob™ thermometer). After approximately 6 days, we’re confident she is finally back to normal.

Halloween happened and was a lot of fun. Crownhart is always the kid-friendly decorations so we decided to decorate as, “Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!”

This turned out to be received relatively well by the community guests. Some people were confused at my costume as The Dude from The Big Lebowski. Don’t worry, it was a candy stick (and I didn’t have it in front of the kids).

Brittany wasn’t able to work on Friday (sick, see above) and was quite disappointed she couldn’t wear the springy-head-band-thing that Melinda had gotten her to work. In a last-minute decision, Brenda had gotten her the purple wig and some giant silver eyelashes to wear.

Isaac has announced officially that the proverbial wheels are in motion for his transfer to UW Superior. See the above link for details on his end. He will be well-received among his friends here.

On the virtual front, I’d like to introduce you to the personal musings of Kyle Saunders at http://kylejsaunders.com. He has been working hard on getting this up, please check back often for updates.

In addition to the release of Kyle’s site, Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala has been released on October 29th. I currently use the Desktop version on my Dell XPS laptop, and the Netbook Remix on my Asus EEE 1000.

Details on Karmic Koala may be covered on a later post, but I’m really enjoying it. As you can see, Isaac is enjoying it also.

Keepin it classy,

-Anthony

Spring break plans are solid. We are flying out this morning at 8:10 from Rhinelander airport and make our way through Minneapolis/St. Paul, Seattle, and ending in Boise, ID. From there, my mom picks us up and we drive to Sun Valley, ID.

My Dad fell outside last night on the icy driveway and is pretty sure that he broke his ankle. He is a pretty tough guy; for him to admit that it is probably broken is almost unprecedented. He fell and crawled in the door, where I met him with an icepack. Although, in retrospect, I do suppose it was Friday the 13th (although I don’t believe in superstitions).

I didn’t sleep very well from a combination of the following: excitement, a medly of the landlord’s bear hounds howling into the night, Sally the dog coming to visit me and leaving the room howling and anxious to join the others outside, or my Dad’s groaning every time he rolled over.

I am awake and need to get ready. I will post pictures as they come to Flickr. Take care, and enjoy.

My car either hates me, or it is paranoid. Or both. The engine fails to start when its under or around 20°F because the starter switch doesn’t disable my security system effictively disabling my engine from starting. It thinks its being hot wired.

Aside from failing to start, (which, by the way, hasn’t happened in a while because of the impressive heat wave [over 25°F]), my car locked itself in Brittany’s driveway with the keys on my seat. Both of my lock cylinders have fallen into the doors. Dad, Captain Matt, Brittany and I were armed with a crowbar, flashlights, and coat hangers trying to engage the electric unlock button with a coat hanger and pop the lock with the coat-hanger-in-the-door-trick. I joked around with my dad about breaking a window as a last resort, and after about 20 minutes of trying, he decided that is what was to be done. A few hits and my backseat was filled with shards of glass; I was able to reach the rear passenger unlock toggle.

The vent-glass will cost $251 USD plus local sales tax (Wisconsin %5.5). For now, duct tape and cardboard effectively serve as my window until I make an appointment with Auto Glass Specialists. The Saturn dealership in Duluth goes through a company that wants to charge me for $575 USD. I’ll take the on-site repair from Auto Glass Specialists. I will, however, use the dealership to fix my locks.

Happy Friday the 13th.

Conversing with Isaac about content for this site:

Myself: I find myself fighting for content.
Isaac Bowen: do some strange things
Isaac Bowen: get arrested
Isaac Bowen: etc
…
Isaac Bowen: yeah. an arrest is probably your best bet.

Oh, words from the wise.

In some recent free time, I managed to finally finish Fear and Loathing by Hunter S. Thompson. It was quite a strange novel and I felt myself searching for some sort of direction, coherent logic, purpose, etc. Wikipedia describes it as,

“The book is a roman à clef, rooted in autobiographical incidents. The story follows its protagonist, Raoul Duke, and his attorney, Dr. Gonzo, as they descend on Las Vegas to chase the American Dream through a drug-induced haze.”

I had to google wikipedia a few drugs as I am not up on the whole drug scene (mescaline and adrenochrome come to the top of my head). I have read gonzo journalism can be traced to its direct origin of an article by Hunter S. Thompson about the Kentucky Derby being described as such. He seems a fascinating guy, and I am looking forward to reading more about him.

Cap’n Matt: I’m looking forward to discussing this book with you.

Kyle: You should read it if you have some spare time.

Also, I have never made a new years resolution (approximately 27 days into the year), but this year it will be more content. I promise this now.

Some photos I’ve taken in the last month:
