New things

Monday, June 30th, 2008

So, since I wrote last I have:

  1. Moved (in to Mom’s)
  2. Help prep Blue Ayes for splash with Captain Hewy
  3. Moved (in to Dad’s)
  4. Helped my Mom move to Idaho
  5. Had my motorcycle engine explode at 65mph
  6. Bought a new motorcycle
  7. Went out on a weekend Vacation on Lake Superior

Here’s the adventure on my motorcycle:

Driving down Highway 8, it quit.  Had a friend that just lived down the road give me a little gas and oil and away I went again.  Made it about 8 miles to Monico and it stalled right before the gas station.  Wheeled it in, called my dad to come with spark plugs and a trailer (just in case).  The spark plugs looked okay, so I tried to nurse it back home. (I’m glad I didn’t fill it with gas before I left, now that I think about it).

About a mile down the road it simply exploded.  The number 2 cylinder punched through the bottom of engine and the connecting rod thrashed around.  Shards of hot metal and oil flew out in all directions.  Then it started to shudder.  Any kid on a bike knows what happens if the front wheel starts to wiggle.  Bad news.  Thankfully my back tire didn’t freeze up and the front tire didn’t blow (the cylinder was RIGHT behind it) and I was able to get the engine to kill.  The connecting rod thrashed and threw parts and oil until the bike stopped.

I’m okay, the bike isn’t.

The new bike is.

Anyway, summer is going well.  Hope you’re enjoying it, too.
